LEAD for Women
OK, so I am a little behind on my blog, but January has been a busy month! The good news is, I have great stuff to report. On January 13, I had the opportunity to speak to the LEAD for Women group out of Delaware in conjunction with Nemours. We had great attendance, and well over 50 women from the LEAD group participated in the hour long event. We continue to promote the 5.2.1.Almost None message to stress the importance of a healthy lifestyle for our families. I received a lot of great questions about how I have been successful in my home. I was reminded of something that I did with my son but I often forget to mention when I am speaking with other mothers. Kids love to DANCE! So as a reminder to all, turn off the TV and crank up your music and start dancing. Your kids will have a blast, and you might surprise yourself and have a lot of fun too!

Mom's Club Landenberg PA
Today I had the opportunity to speak to 15-20 local mom's about the health and wellness of their children and our community. It was great to share with them what has worked in my home and this generated discussion about things that they had tried and worked or maybe did not.
One item that we discussed was the menu in the school cafeteria. I knew that ice cream was on the "menu" but it took this discussion to inspire me once again. I never had ice cream as part of my lunch while was growing up...so is this really acceptable?
Fortunately, I can review my son's account to know what he is eating on a daily basis in the school cafeteria, and it is not ice cream. So I guess I will have to start a letter writing campaign to have these types of sweets removed from the cafeteria?!?! It is interesting, for class parties they often send home a note of approved food items. For example, no cupcakes. So why is ice cream acceptable in the cafeteria to buy for lunch?

Introduction - This blog has been created to support a very important cause. I created a non-profit organization entitled "Mom's Who Care" to create a support network for parents looking to help their children have a healthier lifestyle.
My now 9-year old son was considered "obese" three years ago by pediatric standards. As a mom, I didn't see an obese child and I would say things like, "he is solid" or "he is a big guy". When the note came home from the school nurse after all of the kindergartners had their BMI assessed, it was a rude awakening.
I started to look for solutions, and with every group or organization I contacted, I was met with questions...are you a nutritionist, a nurse, a personal trainer? I would always answer, "no, I'm just a mom who cares!" Each time I made that simple statement, a desire to improve the health and wellness of all children grew inside of me.
I now get out to as many schools, mom's groups, parent/teacher organizations and anyone else who will listen to me talk about the importants of getting plenty of fruits and vegtables and daily activity into their life.
I am an instructor for the Nemours 5.2.1.Almost None program and I work dilligently to promote this everyday in my home and in my community. This blog will come to you to let you know what I am doing and when I am doing it. Hopefully it will inspire you to improve your life through fitness and nutrition.
